Planet Bike Blaze Superflash 2-watt

Product Information

Planet Bike Blaze Superflash 2 watt HeadlampThis light is incredible for such a compact unit. The 100 lumens output isquite sufficient to see with and it compareswell with rechargeable units that are over double the price yet itweighs so little. It has a flash or static mode, with high or low beam (to conservebatteries) and has good side vision, so you can not only see, but alsobe seen from a variety of angles. The unit is not expensive to run, regardless of the enormousoutput. It will run for 5 hours on high beam, 12 hours on low beam or 18hourson flash mode. All this on 2 aa batteries. The mounting bracket adjusts to oversize handlebars and is quick tofit and easy to adjust. Here is a review from WomensAdventure MagazineI’ve been a big fan of the Planet Bike Blaze headlight andSuperflash taillight for a while now. They stay on my commuter bikeyear-round and have supplanted all my other lights except for the big10watt battery pack light I use for total darkness. The Superflash isbright enough to get noticed from the back and the 1 watt Blaze castsenough light to help navigate dark streets when you’re riding fairlyslowly.Planet Bike now makes the Blaze headlight in a 2 watt version andI wanted to see how much difference that extra watt of light would makewhen I was riding in total darkness. Normally, I think of the Blaze asa “be seen” light rather than a light for nighttime navigation, but the2 watt version is definitely bright enough to ride around the streetsand see the potholes, opossums, and other jetsam on the road at a decentspeed. I wouldn’t take it down a mountain bike trail at night all byitself, but for most nighttime pavement riding situations, it’s super. All the Blaze lights (1/2 watt, 1 watt, and 2 watt) come withhigh-beam, as well as low-beam and flashy settings, so you can conservebattery life if you don’t need that high-beam intensity. TheSuperflash taillight will flash or stay solid and it’s bright enough tohurt your eyes if you look directly at it up close (Planet Bike assuresus it’s visible up to a mile away). One of the things that’s made the Blaze one of my favorites isthe ease with which it mounts and removes. I’m often running errands onmy bike and I like to slip the lights off and put them in my bag todeter thievery. The Blaze slides easily out of its handlebar mount – nocomplicated unlatching or bolts to undo. Replacing or recharging thebatteries is quick, too, with the light front twisting off to give youaccess. If any of your riding takes you out on the streets at night or inlow light conditions, it’s a must to have lights. The Blaze andSuperflash will keep you pedaling safely after dark and you’ll feel fineknowing that Planet Bike donates 25% of their profits back to bicycleadvocacy causes.
