GT Zaskar Elite.

The Zaskar has a Kinesis Superlight aluminium Triple Triangle frame. It has used similar geometry for around 20 years now, so there are no surprises with this frame. The handling is predictable and reliable. While there are always new innovations, as we all know not all of them live up to their claims, well there is no such situation with the Zaskar frame. The Zaskar frame has been race proven, and it has long had a reputation as an efficient frame for power transfer. This GT frame design has won both X/C and DH world championships and is available at a price that most of us can manage. even though their bikes may not be lightest weight or the most recent fad, they are every-day bikes that, at the end of the day, are durable, hassle free and fun to ride.

This tried and tested frame has then been fitted with Rockshox Recon Gold TK Solo Air suspension (quite a mouthful isn't it?). Recon's have 100mm of travel with rebound adjustment and turn key lockout. This hydraulic system has the ability to be adjusted to virtually any terrain and rider requirements. With the combination of variable air pressure, and restricted hydraulic flow, the forks can cater for a huge variety of riding conditions. If required the forks can be inexpensively modified to a remote lock-out system. Recon Gold are a relatively lightweight fork as they have an aluminium crown, magnesium lower legs and aluminium stanchions.

This bike is designed for rapid climbing and high speed work, it has wide, flat bars with good quality tyres that give great traction and help with the excellent balance of this bike. With the Zaskar's light weight, climbing is easier than on many of its competitors, and fast single tracks are a breeze with the great traction, and predictable handling. If you would like a bit of an edge, this is the machine to do it. SRAM X-7 27 speed is known for its reliable precise shifting under tough off-road conditions. These shifters and derailleurs are ideal for this bike, they compliment it's natural ability on single tracks as do the Juicy 3's, which provide powerful, controllable braking.

So........ If you want a light, agile bike at well below $2,000 this bike is worth test riding, and the looks may just tip the balance.
