The GT Zaskar Comp is part of GT's range of bikes aimed at the entry level racing market or those who appreciate the lighter weight and higher quality found in race bikes. 

 

The Zaskar is based on the tried and proven "triple triangle"design that has been a regular attendee at race meetings for the last 20 years. The benefit of this of course is that any "glitches" have been sorted out long ago, so you tend to get a thoroughly sorted "tried and tested" bike backed by a lifetime guarantee. Sure, if you had lots of money there are better, lighter frames available, but none at anywhere near the price of this package. The frame is reasonably light, the primary source of this light weight is a frame which is made using 6061 aluminium tubing which has been hydro-formed to increase strength. The hydro forming eliminates the need for additional gussetting which adds weight and doesn't look as pretty as hydroforming.

 

This race proven frame has then been fitted with RockShox Recon Silver hydraulic forks. This forks has 100mm of travel, with a hydraulic lock-out and rebound adjustment. If you wish the fork can be upgraded to a remote lock-out for around $100, so you will tend to use the lock-out feature far more than when it is on the fork leg. The rebound adjustment helps improve the overall handling as you acn keep the fork active without the tendency to throw you out of the saddle.

 

The Zaskar Comp is fitted with a range of quality components such as a Shimano SLX rear derailleur and Deore shifters to ensure precise changing off road. The hydraulic disc brakes are Avid Elixir 3, another popular brake, which has tremendous stopping power, and a progressive feel. Add to this a pair of tough disc specific wheels, the Rock Shox Recon Race Silver forks and other quality components and you soon realise that this is a great bike and ideal for some real off road use. It is not just a bike that looks as though it could be ridden off road.
