Giant Anthem X 29er 2011
The 2011 Giant Anthem X 29er is a brilliantly priced 29" dual suspension mountain bike.
Why buy an Anthem X 29er?
While 29ers may appear cumbersome and heavy, the reality is that these bikes, with their larger wheel diameter, can roll over obstacles that a 26" wheel bike would baulk at, meaning the bike has a more agile feel than many expect. Where a 26" wheel bike would be difficult to control over short, sharp undulations, potholes, washouts, etc, the 29" bike can roll straight over the top of much of it. Much easier on the rider (particularly good for us older riders). The Anthem is a brilliant bike. It has a fluid formed frame that eliminates the need for added gussets. This means a frame that is lighter for a given level of strength. Fluid forming has proven to be very effective. Over the past few years we have had very few problems over vast numbers of frames sold using this technology. Giant are so confident that they are willing to offer a lifetime guarantee, even on their off-road frames. Let’s be honest, if you can buy a bike that is really light, well equipped for the money with one of the best, if not the best suspension system around, and you get a lifetime guarantee with that bike, it must be worth serious consideration at least.
The bike is equipped with Shimano Deore XT , a 30 speed gear system that works reliably. Not only can this bike handle high speed cross country trails, but it will climb pretty much any slope on which it can gain traction. The gearing is phenomenal. And, in regards to traction, the Maestro dual suspension system assists traction to such a degree that it is possible to climb better on a Maestro system dual suspension bike than on a hard-tail.The wheels are specially built or Giant, double walled, eyeleted, with Swiss DT spokes and rear hub. They should be good reliable wheels, they certainly have the brand names and an emphasis on being rugged. The SRAM Elixir brakes are renowned for good reliable braking. The assembly is light and not only works well, but looks great. Quite a bike, why not come and try one?
