Mountain Bike
Mountain Bike | Mountain Bikes | Giant Mountain BikesMountain bikes are a bit like the 2 wheel version of a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Originally designed and engineered for harsh off road conditions, but have evolved into many various forms, with extras and comfort considerations not originally thought necessary. Another similarity the modern Mountain bike has with a 4 wheel drive is the fact that many of them never actually get to see too much off road action. Not that there is anything wrong with that! The most likely mountain bike you will be shown in our store is a Giant bike. This is because we carry their full rang of hard tail, dual suspension and now 29 inch wheel models. In addition we carry GT mountain bikes, as well as a number of superceded Mongoose bikes where great bargains can be found. For a quick orientation of your options (as there are a few), if you are after a Giant Dual Suspension Mountain Bike, have a look at the Giant Anthem, Giant Trance, Giant Reign or Giant Trance categories. You will also find a couple of the Dual Suspension Mountain Bikes in the "Giant 29er" category. If you are after a Hardtail Mountain Bike (only front suspension), you can choose a Giant Front Suspension, an Esperia Mountain Bike, Commencal Bike, Mongoose Mountain Bike, Jump Bike, GT Mountain Bike, Silverback or Centurion Bikes. Many Mountain bikes are now designed and intended for what could be called recreational riding. Sure there may be some bike paths and trails involved but most of the riding involved is for a bit of fun and fitness without trying to be the next Evil Kneivel. There are various models of Mountain bikes available that cater to the needs of most riders. All of the Mountain bikes we sell are pretty tough, so even the cheaper models intended for recreational riding will stand up to some use under harsher conditions. Models such as the Giant Boulder and Talon range would all be considered recreational Mountain bikes, and all are good solid units. But if you have perhaps already had a Mountain bike and you have got past the "trying it out" stage and now have the desire to go out and get dirty then there are models better suited to "more serious" riding. The upper range models are all designed with this more regular off road riding in mind, and if you like the feel of a really light weight bike then their is a range of race ready bikes.A number of Mountain bikes now have both front and rear suspension which are often favoured by more serious riders who have progressed through the various stages and have developed the skill (or bravado) to ride more aggressively. The dual suspension helps the rider maintain control when travelling at speed over rough terrain. But just as there are 4 wheel drives that never get their tyres dirty, there are a number of dual suspension Mountain bikes which rarely venture onto the really rough stuff and are bought purely for the comfortable ride they provide the rider. Most of the mountain bikes we sell are Giant or GT bikes. The 2012 Giant mountain bikes are similar in quality to the 2011 bicycles, but they are generally better looking bikes. This year Giant Australia is using many models from the international range, which will help keep the price down. GT mountain bikes have been around for over 20 years now, and while not really innovative, they are a reliable, proven performer. The Zaskar range has been winning cross country and downhill mountain bike races for many years (with the help of some brilliant riders), so if you would like a reliable mountain bike GT or Giant bikes are hard to beat. Both companies have ranges of recreation, cross country and downhill bikes with full suspension, that are both competitive and far less demanding on riders. Giant bikes listed from recreation to performance would run something like this: Trailglide, Boulder, Talon, Anthem, Trance, Reign and Glory. The order is a guide only running from emphasis on comfort through to a dedicated downhill bike. |
