Giant Alamode CRS City

The Alamode Crs City is an ideal bike for anyone who is unsure whether they will use a bike sufficiently to justify the cost. It’s really a great bike, it looks good, rides really well and has Giant’s totally dependable back-up service. Giant brought out this range of hybrid bikes specifically to meet the needs of people who are on a limited budget or use a bicycle rarely. If you buy a cheap bike it may be so unpleasant to ride that you simply lose interest, and leave it to gather dust. At least with the Alamode the bike really does ride nicely. The gears work well, the action is light and precise. It has more than enough gears (21 speed) and the brakes stop quickly and easily. The wheels and frame are aluminium so it is not too heavy and the mudguards and rack are well made and come as standard equipment on the bike.

You’re probably beginning to wonder why it’s so inexpensive. Giant are simply using tried and proven frames together with reliable equipment from less expensive suppliers. There are many ways to trim a little bit off the cost, a bit here, another bit there, use steel there instead of alloy, but still end up with a reliable comfortable bike to ride. The Alamode Crs City has an aluminium frame, with no suspension and 21 gears. The frame is made of aluminium to keep the weight down, yet provide a good strong frame. This is important because the frame is the part that transfers the power that you input to the pedals into the forward motion for the bicycle. A poor frame will give the overall impression of a bike that is heavy and very hard to push. The frame has rigid forks (no suspension) which keeps the price and the weight down, yet does not detract from the ride over most paved surfaces. Speaking of comfort. The saddle is quite well designed, so you don’t jump on the bike and think "great bike, but that saddle.... No way!" If you would prefer a more luxurious saddle we can always upgrade it for a small charge. The saddle is nice and comfortable, it has springs made of a gel like material that it sits on to take up the shock, and smooth out the ride. The other point of contact is the handlebars, here the grips are soft and shaped to fit your palms, good quality grips can go a long way to increasing the comfort of a bicycle. The seating position is well designed, ideal if you wish to sit relatively upright for added comfort and better vision. Of course care has been taken to choose colours that will look good, and a paint finish that is durable and will withstand being subjected to Melbourne's somewhat unreliable weather. The ladies bike is silver and gunmetal, the gents either silver or black. The brakes naturally work well, and are easy to use, requiring little effort to stop under any conditions.
