Giant Seek 1 Hybrid Bike 2010.

The old adage 'seek and you will find' was never more applicable than with Giant's brand new urban range for 2010. These sleek, stylish bikes embody a lot of the feedback we often hear from our customers; "I want a lightweight bike that will be just as suitable for my weekday commuting as it is for the bike paths on the weekends". But aren't you talking about a hybrid bike? Well, maybe once. But the Seek offers something more. The rigid forks borrow a lot from Giant's popular CRX range of flat-bar roadbikes, an ideal option for commuting. However, the CRX's narrow tyres means that they are often best suited to sealed roads and bike paths. The Seek 1's increased tyre width makes it a go-anywhere bike. Couple this with the Seek 1's hydraulic disc brakes and you have a bike that ensures excellent braking performance in all weather conditions, an all-round winner for the commuter braving Melbourne's cold in winter or the weekend adventurer riding the Yarra Trail into Southbank. In short, it is a bike packed with sound features for the about-town rider.

Let's look at some of these:

*reflective bands around the front forks and rear stays of the frame give an added level of visibility;

*an additional set of anti-theft skewers for the wheels provides additional security for your wheels when the bike is locked up, meaning you still get to enjoy the ride home - and not the walk!

*Strong wheels built around quality Mavic eye-letted rims means less problems when you hit the occassional (or not-so) pot-hole in the road, and offer the support needed for those that want to add a rack and carry extra weight on the back.

*A range of 27 gears means you can make light work of the hills as well as gain great speed on the flats. "But I don't need THAT many gears", I'm often told by customers. Without getting 'too' technical, the more gears on the back means smaller spacing between individual cogs and makes for smoother changing. You don't want to be struggling up a hill, change gears, and suddenly find it way too easy - you've now lost all your forward speed. Make those changes smaller, smoother, and keep a good pace up as you cut paths around Melbourne's streets.

Did I mention stylish!? It is a noticable trend for many of Giant's 2010 range that design was an important consideration and the Seek is certainly one of the stand-out highlights of this new approach. The front forks emerge from the frame with a seamless gracefulness. The hydraulic rear brake caliper is tucked neatly within the frame, while the strengthened rear-dropout area is both practical, strong and pleasingly different. A stainless steel guard around the top tube of the frame is both an attractive 'accent' to the bike's styling and a sensible move to avoid the frame being scuffed when locked up. I could list the great features of this bike all day, but there's no substitute for coming in and taking one for a ride - you'll soon see for yourself why we're so excited about this bike!
