A Single Speed Bike more commonly known as fixie is a rapidly growing trend. They require greater leg strength from the rider, but develop the riders fitness to a greater degree than a conventional geared bike.

Their great appeal though, has nothing to do with strength or improved fitness. It is all about the simplicity. The pristine uncluttered look. The clean lines and sheer beauty of man and machine combining as one amongst nature, without any unnecessary mechanisms complicating the issue. 

Fixies and other single speeds are available in a number of forms. Track bikes are a natural, as they all come sans brakes. Drop handlebar road bikes, flat bar road bikes, even mountain bikes can be either fixed or free single speeds.
